The DIY Smart Saw is claimed to make your woodworking, home decorating, and DIY projects so much easier to do.

It is claimed to show you how you can complete any wood project relatively quickly. The creators say that this “revolutionary” digital saw can build creative and precise works of art from plain wood, so that you can customize anything for your friends and family.

Similarly, they say that the DIY Smart Saw helps you customize any piece of wood to your exact requirements, allowing you to complete your most ambitious dream projects.

They say that with the DIY Smart Saw, you don’t have to deal with the headache of lousy instructions, bad plans, or imperfect measurements. Without having to follow blueprints, you’ll be able to build designs on autopilot with great accuracy. Even if you’re a novice woodworker, you’re supposed to be able to do awesome things with the Smart Saw.

Is it true? Does it actually work well?

Hello there! In case you don’t know who I am, my name is Scott and I have decades of experience in carpentry as well as extensive knowledge in wood carving and cabinet making.

I have spent thousands of hours creating in my workshop.

I’ve been doing DIY work for years now, and I’ve made some pieces that I’m really proud of.

Some Background

Woodworking is a such a great hobby; it’s exciting to be able to create something from nothing. Sometimes, though, it can get frustrating when you have to compromise your designs in order to match whatever parts you are able to find.

Some time ago, I hit a bit of a wall. I had enough skill and experience to where I was able to carve out creations by hand that looked pretty good, but the process always exhausted me. I wanted to find a faster, more efficient method for completing my projects.

I hopped online and eventually came across a digital machine that can carve out very precise details into wood. After hours of research and investigation, I discovered that this machine is a kind of CNC router with a fairly simple mechanism. You can use this machine for pretty much any kind of woodwork.

When I looked into this DIY Smart Saw product, which claimed to solve this problem for good, I was naturally quite intrigued.

So I bought the product, followed the instructions, and tested it out. And the results surprised me a little bit given my natural skepticism of these kinds of things.

My Review: Thoughts & How It Works

The DIY Smart Saw in action

Now that I’ve built and tried this thing myself, I have mostly positive things to say about it. Let me tell you about how it works:

What you do is enter some numbers into a computer, and those numbers command the machine to move exactly the way you want it. It’s a precise woodcarving system that allows you to create personalized and unique pieces of woodwork.

And it works how you would expect a quality CNC wood router to work.

This is the DIY Smart Saw. After some prep work, you push a button, and the machine creates whatever your imagination can draw up, from coffee tables to picnic tables, wooden toys for your kids, home decorations, shop signs, racks, engraved cigar boxes, desks, guitars, TV cabinets, surf boards or dog houses.

With the Smart Saw, you can basically let your imagination run wild:

  • It’s a 100% self-correcting device that leaves no room for error.
  • You don’t have to waste any money or precious time on excess wood. From the very first go, you can create the perfect cutout without trying over and over again to get the measurements right.
  • Even a beginner or a lousy woodworker is able to successfully finish the most complex projects.
  • The programmed tool is able to work 20 times faster than the human hand.
  • You can print out a design as many times you need it.
  • It works on autopilot. All you have to do is to select a design and let the Smart Saw go to work.
  • You can build a DIY Smart Saw at a tiny fraction of the cost of a professional CNC woodcarving machine.

Here’s exactly what you’re getting with the DIY Smart Saw…

DIY Smart Saw Pros & Cons

The Pros

1. The tool eliminates the guesswork.

Not many people have to patience or time to build their own version of a CNC machine nowadays. Most information you find online is too technical or too confusing. Most of the time, you need to be a graduate of an engineering course or an inventor in order to be able to understand the formulas, jargon and concepts.

With the DIY Smart Saw guide, any guesswork is taken away from you. You only have to watch the videos, read the instructions, and execute the blueprint.

2. It’s a cheaper alternative.

The cost of building the DIY Smart Saw is MUCH less than the cost of a secondhand CNC machine. If you don’t have the budget to invest in an expensive CNC machine or are new to woodcarving, this can be a great option that still allows you to make intricate designs accurately and fast.

According to the creator of this program, Alex Grayson, you’ll probably be able to build a Smart Saw by spending between $160 and $500. I was able to put mine together for under $300, but I already had a few of the parts.

3. It’s easy to implement.

If you can follow instructions and use a screwdriver, I’m pretty sure that you’ll be able to put this machine together without difficulties! The step-by-step demo video makes for a trouble-free assembly.

4. The program is covered by a 60-day refund guarantee.

The payment for the program is made through ClickBank. The purchase of the DIY Smart Saw guide is covered by a 60 days money-back promise. This means you can try the program totally risk free.

The Cons

1. There’s no hard copy.

There’s no hard copy available. The program includes video tutorials and an eBook, and you need an internet connection to view these. For the moment, no DVDs or physical copies are available.

2. Gathering all the necessary parts can be a little tricky.

Grayson says that it’s very easy to get all the parts and materials needed to build the Smart Saw, but in my experience and from what I’ve heard, this is not entirely true.

I was able to get the parts fairly easily, but I have heard from some friends and others that it is more of a challenge. On top of that, some of the parts can be quite expensive, so you might spend closer to $1000 to build yours depending on availability and where you live.

My results after using the DIY Smart Saw

DIY Smart Saw Review Image 1
The kind of creation you can make with the Smart Saw

My results have been excellent, nearly in line with what I would expect from a commercial CNC wood router.

I’m proud of the woodworking creations I’ve made with the Smart Saw. I’ve been able to create many kinds of wood designs of different complexities, including a creative birdhouse, a small part of a hardwood flooring system, and a multi-function desk. Without the Smart Saw, it would be a royal pain in the butt to make these, if I’d be able to do it at all.

The Smart Saw has been a tremendous help when it comes to materializing my most ambitious projects. Before, I had a hard time getting the measurements right and make flawless wood carvings. Really, I credit a good chunk of my present success to the Smart Saw digital tool.

A Note About Cost

The “Smart Saw” is, in fact, a home-built CNC machine that allows you to plug in numbers in order to carve wood pieces to your exact specifications. Your measurements are 100% accurate and the digital machine moves exactly as required.

Unfortunately, brand new CNC machines can cost thousands of dollars. You’re still going to spend more than $2,000 even for a secondhand CNC machine on eBay. However, the DIY Smart Saw allows you to create unique and personalized projects in a fraction of the time it takes to do it all by hand.

The CNC machine-like device is easy and cheap to build using the step-by-step instructions and video tutorial. I was able to put it together in two afternoons. Most of the parts needed were easy to find in my local hardware store. I just needed some basic tools for the task, including a hammer, tubular wrench, screwdriver, depth stop and Allen tool.

After gathering everything I needed, I just used the step by step instructions and the video guide to assemble the parts and build the Smart Saw. The detailed illustrations made it easy to follow through with the process.

When it comes to cost, as I mentioned above, I was able to gather all the parts for the saw machine for under $300. Pretty good stuff.

The Setup Process

The DIY Smart Saw guide greatly simplifies the task of building your own CNC machine. The smart saw is built from complicated pieces of machinery, and the thing is the that if you don’t follow the guide, it would probably take you several days and several hundred more dollars to build the thing. You can easily get lost along the way if you’re not good at following instructions or not good with your hands. Some people even pay a few thousand dollars for their CNC machine.

DIY Smart Saw Review Bonus Shot

Once my DIY Smart Saw was built, I just used a USB cable to connect it to my computer. Then I downloaded the online designs onto the machine. Note that the CNC machine can work with any computer.

Once everything was set up, I was given the capability to build all types of furniture, home decorations, and unique DIY projects quickly and super easily. I have probably saved thousands furnishing my home.

The 101 CNC Woodworking extra guide that comes as a bonus to this program features various designs that can be created using your Smart Saw. I’m using this guide right now to inspire my wood crafting creations.

If you want to discover how to design your own precise wood creations and are interested in woodworking, then the DIY Smart Saw guide may be what you truly need. For me, this digital tool has made a real difference. You’ll reap big rewards from this DIY guide if you’re ready to put in some work up front.

Conclusion: Very happy with the DIY Smart Saw Program

With all that said, I can safely conclude that the DIY Smart Saw program is a terrific opportunity for those with an interest in woodworking and DIY home-improvement.

It’s certainly not a scam, but I can definitely say that it’s a little more difficult to put the machine together than Grayson lets on.

Still, whether you’re a seasoned woodcarver or a complete newbie, the guide can help anyone build their own Smart Saw and start making perfect wood creations with relatively little effort. What’s great is you don’t need complicated software, special tools, engineering skills or expert knowledge to pull it off.

If you don’t have the money to invest in a CNC machine or you’re just looking for a faster, better way to produce high-quality wood creations, then I definitely recommend you give the DIY Smart Saw a shot. It’s a much cheaper option and you don’t have anything to lose since the program is covered by a full refund guarantee.

Very detailed review, thanks Scott. My husband is into woodworking, and the thing is he’d like to be able to take the precision of his carvings to another level with a kind of CNC machine. The problem is, as you mentioned in the review, good ones can be ridiculously expensive. I think he’d be very interested in this “DIY Smart Saw”; I’m going to have him read your review and make a decision on this. Have you heard any stories of these vendors not honoring refund requests?

    • Scott says:

Sounds great Carla. It sounds like the Smart Saw would be a great option for him. No, I haven’t. I would think if there were stories, the product owners would be in a whole lot of trouble. This is certainly not a scam; Clickbank is a reputable company and the offer runs through their systems. Thanks for your comment, and do let me know if you have any more questions.

  2. Billy says:

this is a good review. but where can I find more pictures and maybe even a video of how this DIY Smart Saw works and what it can create??

    • Scott says:

Hey Billy, thanks for checking out the page. You can find a ton more images and video clips depicting how the tool works on this sales page. I must say that it’s incredibly effective when you consider the cost and effort involved in getting it set up.

  3. Brett says:

Hey Scott. I read your review and decided to buy the program… I wanted to let you know how things are going. The video and written instructions are pretty easy to follow, I’ve gathered all the parts I need and I’m probably about 25% of the way to completion. I already had many of the parts that I needed just laying around the house, so I didn’t have to spend much at all. Everything going smoothly so far. I’ll give you an update once it’s put together and I’ve put it to use. Here’s hoping this continues to go well.

    • Scott says:

Awesome, Brett. Thanks for giving us an update. The instructions are indeed very clear, detailed and easy to understand. I don’t anticipate you’ll experience much in the way of problems, but if you ever get stuck on something, let me know and I’ll see if I can help. Seeing what the machine can do will no doubt make it all worthwhile.

      • Brett says:

I just wanted to provide a brief update. I managed to put the thing together a couple weeks after I left my last comment; ran into a few hitches along the way but figured it out. It’s a great router that’s fairly easy to program from the computer and operate. So far it’s helped me to build a really nice desk and some exotic shelves for my home. Thanks for turning me onto this!

  4. Doug says:

man thos woodworks look incredible… don’t wanna pay an arm and a leg for a speciality CNC machine, and this looks like a great option. i’ve heard good things about it too. good review.

  5. Don P. says:

I just want to put my results down here for anyone reading this who’s on the fence. I bought the program, managed to build the thing for about $350 total, and it works awesome. I’ve built a lot of things with it that look pretty amazing – you can look through their “101 CNC Woodworking” guide for project ideas, and you can also find plenty online. So glad I have this thing. With that said, I caution people to build it carefully and follow the program instructions closely as there are a lot of spots along the way where you can mess up.

    • Scott says:

Thanks for sharing Don. Good to know you’ve had success with it!

    • Brett says:

This. I’ve had a similar experience, although total cost was a little more for me. Note that some of the links to parts in the program are broken, so you’ll have to do a bit of your own digging in some cases. Good guide overall.

  6. Jasper says:

i’ve heard from a coupl people that the cost of building this thing is actually closer to $1000!! seems hard to believe that you could put it together for lss than $300

    • Scott says:

Thanks for the comment Jasper. The cost of construction can definitely vary, and I’d say that while the $300 number is possible, $1000 is on the high end of the spectrum. It really depends on how much you can get the parts for. In any case, you certainly won’t be spending anywhere near the $2500-$100000 that a professional CNC machine costs. You’ll need to do the research.

  7. HeathTheWoodworker says:

I used to be really into woodworking, but fell out of it a couple years ago. Now I’ve decided to get back into it, and since I’ve always wanted my own CNC router, I took a chance and picked up this product. It took me a fair amount of time to collect all the parts I needed (I don’t keep much in my home), some of which were a bit of a challenge to find. Still, though, I managed to put the thing together and it works surprisingly well. The guide is clear for the most part.

I finished a picnic table the other day and it looks awesome – it may not have the extreme high precision of a machine that costs $10000, but it’s pretty darn good. It’s quite a nice feeling to see something that I’ve worked on by myself from the start turn into a beautiful result.

I plan to picnic with my family next week. I expect comments about the table!

With gratitude, your review was the first I came across and it really helped me. I just want to let people know that this is legit – it’s going to take some work to put it together, but it’s well worth it. Thanks, Heath

    • Scott says:

Thanks for sharing, Heath. I’m really glad it worked out for you. Do you have a picture of the table? Link it so we can see!

  8. simon says:

it’s not the first time I’ve heard about this produc, but this probably the best review I’ve seen yet. i’ve never bought a digital woodworking product online before, but I’m just ready to give this a try. I’ll let you know how things go and then share my experience here for everyone.

  9. RiverCut92 says:

I bought this and built the machine. I have already built some pretty sweet woodwork – going to share it on social media soon. Thanks for the review. Does this site have a Facebook or Twitter?

    • Scott says:

Awesome. You should link out to your post. As for the social media, yes, I do! There are links to all of my social media accounts in the footer of the site.
